FULL-TIME Groundskeeper Job Description
Position Summary:
The Groundskeeper is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and aesthetic appeal of outdoor spaces, including lawns, gardens, walkways, and public areas. This role involves routine landscaping tasks, equipment operation, and seasonal maintenance to ensure all grounds are well-kept, safe, and inviting to the public. The position will function in the midst of a garden that is open to the public. Responsibilities listed below are not intended to describe every duty or task, but rather to convey the overarching intent of the position.
Key Responsibilities
- Landscape Maintenance: Mow lawns, trim hedges, edge walkways, and prune trees and shrubs.
- Plant Care: Water, fertilize, and monitor the health of plants, flowers, and turf.
- Seasonal Duties: Rake leaves, remove snow, apply ice-melt, and prepare grounds for seasonal changes.
- Irrigation Systems: Inspect, maintain, and repair sprinklers and irrigation lines.
- Grounds Cleanliness: Remove litter, empty trash bins, and maintain clean walkways and outdoor furniture.
- Equipment Operation: Safely operate mowers, trimmers, blowers, and other landscaping tools.
- Minor Repairs: Perform basic repairs to fences, benches, signage, and outdoor fixtures.
- Safety Compliance: Follow safety protocols and report hazards or maintenance needs promptly.
- Garden Support: Other duties as needed to ensure the smooth operations of the Garden. May include event setup/takedown, or other special projects.
Qualifications
- Prior experience in landscaping or grounds maintenance
- Familiarity with landscaping tools and machinery
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions
- Physical stamina to lift a minimum of 40 lbs., bend, and perform manual labor
- Basic knowledge of horticulture and plant care is a plus
- Strong work ethic
