Event Staff (Part-Time / On-Call)

Position Summary:

The Mobile Botanical Gardens is seeking enthusiastic and reliable Event Staff to join our team. As part of our team, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth operation and overall success of our events including private rentals, MBG-hosted events and education programs, and more. Event staff responsibilities include setting up/breaking down chairs and tables, ensuring proper equipment is in place, inspection of equipment/furniture post event, among other duties. In additional to job roles, event staff will need the physical stamina to be on their feet for the duration of an event along with lifting a minimum of 40 lbs. Ideal candidates would also be able to cross-train and work as a Gift Shop Associate as needed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Logistics and Set-up: Ensure event spaces are clean and organized, arrange chairs, tables, signage and technical equipment based on a provided layout to ensure the venue is ready and meets event specifications. Set up and assist with technical equipment such as speakers and projectors.
  • Rental Liaison/Guest Management: Serve as primary Garden representative and liaison for rental customers during rental events. Greet and check in guests/event vendors and participants, operate cash registers, and provide directions.
  • Rules and Safety Compliance: Monitor events for safety and security purposes, and represent the Garden to ensure applicable rules, policies, and guidelines are followed.
  • Information Assistance: Answer guest queries and provide event details to ensure attendees needs are met throughout the event.
  • On-the-Spot Problem Solving: Address last-minute issues such as changes in event layout or schedule, weather related complications and more to help keep disruptions to a minimum and maintain the event flow.
  • Post-Event Wrap-Up: Ensure that takedown and clean-up for rentals is completed thoroughly by rental customers. Work with event leader to clear the venue space, inspect equipment for damage after use and check it against an inventory list, remove/reset tables and chairs based on a provided layout and ensure event space is clean.

  • Flexibility to work early mornings and/or late evenings during the week and weekends as needed for specific events.
