Whether it’s indoors or out, working with plants or working with people, it takes many hands to run the Gardens! Your time spent here will result in learning more about plants and the benefits of environmental stewardship, while also helping MBG grow and develop. We are always looking for volunteers to help on the grounds, in the office, or at events. If you’d like to get involved, e-mail us or call the office at (251) 342-0555. If you have a specific interest, check out one of the groups below.
Mobile County Master Gardeners
The largest percentage of our volunteer base, Master Gardeners provide advice and expertise at our Plant Sales and Spring Marketplace, serve as docents and greenhouse support, and generally enrich the gardens. If you would like more information on the Master Gardener program, visit the Mobile County Extension Office website or call them at (251) 574-8445.
If you’d like to learn more about the Gardens and share that knowledge with visitors, become a docent! Docents teach visiting groups of all ages about the Gardens and our unique environment. For more information, call or email the MBG office.
A group of volunteers who meet at least once a week to care for and propagate plants for use in the Gardens and at Plantasia. This in-house support contributes a large amount of plant material that helps raise money to support MBG. If you like to get your hands dirty, call or email the MBG office.
The most important arm of any organization – our Petal Pushers are the “Tea and Sandwiches Division.” They serve as hosts for events, run the cantina during Plantasia set-up, and also help with tasks such as bulk mailing and binder assembly; all with grace and style, and often with cookies. If you’re interested in joining up, call or email the MBG office.
