Her artwork celebrates botanical images from the garden and beyond. An illustrator of 11 books for children, Val Webb is known for her drawings of garden and nature subjects. She has conducted workshops at botanical gardens, parks and nature centers throughout the southeast, and she serves as the 2013 Artist in Residence for the Mobile Botanical Gardens.

Mary Rodning A trail has been left in my heart by painting with wet soot on mulberry pulp through two years in Japan and two months in China which will follow me my entire life, which is not one of an Asian recluse, but one of mothering three sons, now seven GRANDchildren, being the wife of a poet and surgeon, upkeep supervisor of our small Alabama farm and its critters, dreamer of canoeing the north woods, personally knowing all the birds in our woods, staying in touch with our Creator and his people, washing more clothes and dishes than paint brushes, practicing and painting the art of life while living it.

Stacey Howell starts every painting with an idea or observation and saturates herself with that image, bringing out all the left brain stuff at her disposal and then lets the magic begin. She creates using the subconscious intuition that God gave us all. She paints in oil and acrylics, using a wide variety of mediums. She has won many awards and has been honored to create art for many local fundraisers. She teaches color mixing and her mastery of color can be seen in her vibrant paintings. She loves the gulf coast and feels blessed to live and paint in such a beautiful place.

Ardith Goodwin is an enthusiastic artist, writer, instructor, with a vivid imagination. Her life journey has been one filled with physical challenges, moments of self-discovery, and great passion to share her love of art, writing, and courage with people from around the world. A self taught artist, the signature trait in her artwork is color and no matter the medium be it watercolor, mixed media, or collage, that is the tie that binds her pieces together in beautiful harmony.

Ainsley McNeely is a native of Alabama, and has drawn and painted all her life. A student of the old masters and the great artists of the 1800’s, she originally worked primarily in watercolor and graphite then expanded into oil, pen & ink, pastel, sculpture and more recently casein, frequently mixing media to achieve the desired effect. Her oils use a Victorian color palette, giving them a distinctive feel compared to the contemporary colors used by other artists while her pastels are done on a handmade paper with a unique almost leather-like appearance, giving them an antique flavor. She holds a B.A. in studio art from Florida State University and a master’s degree from the University of South Alabama.

Fred Marchman, MFA, BFA, painter, sculptor, and printmaker, studied painting at the University of Alabama and sculpture at Tulane University. His career includes a wide range of approaches to materials and themes both traditional and modern. While he regards himself as a Modern Artist and Southern Pop Artist, he also does work of a more easily accessible style, as seen in his decorative wildfowl carvings, mixed media landscapes, still life’s and floral subjects. The artist uses a range of media including bronze, stone and wood in sculpture; printmaking in woodcuts, silkscreen, etchings and computer art; collage, acrylic painting and murals.

Benita Hatfield-McNider, has been active in the local arts for many years. When not creating her own works, she teaches oil painting at Bay Rivers Art Guild in Daphne. She is active in many local arts organizations, including Mobile Arts Council, the Eastern Shore Arts Council and the Portrait Society of America.

Betsy Adams pursued painting as an elusive hobby for many years, before a move to Fairhope allowed her to spend more time learning technique. Flowers are her passion, and she enjoys growing, arranging and painting them. Recently, she has begun to explore portraiture to capture her grandchildren as they grow. Most of all, painting gives her a calm, quiet time to create and give expression to the beauty that surrounds us.

Let's change the way we eat!

Let’s change the way we eat!

A lack of dietary fruits and vegetables has been tied to many health issues, including obesity. Alabama ranks second in obesity and first in diabetes in the entire country, certainly not areas we’d like to excel in. But it’s hard to eat healthy – fresh produce availability in urban areas can be limited, or just plain expensive, especially when compared to the cost of processed foods. And what do you do with those vegetables once you get them home?

Seed To Table combines the best features of community gardening with instruction in food preparation and healthy eating habits. Studies have shown that maintaining and harvesting a garden builds a pride in ownership and accomplishment that can be rewarding and can bolster self-confidence. Our inaugural program, in association with Mobile Housing Board, is located in the Renaissance Corridor, just off Beauregard Street. Twenty-five families will soon be tending their own individual garden plots. Once they’ve started their gardens, they’ll attend cooking classes and create healthy menus using their produce.

Want to help? We’re currently in need of volunteers to work with our participant families in the garden on a weekly basis, as well as demonstration chefs and dieticians. Contact us for more details.
